Made in GDR – East Berlin Tour and Beer tasting

Our new & exciting bus tour will take us to the Eastern parts of Berlin – to the time between 1961 and 1989, to the life behind the Berlin Wall. Come with us and learn more about the all day life, products, architecture, cultural life, prices, problems and joys – “Made in GDR”*. This tour will provide you with an insight on life behind the Iron curtain. Thereby the focus is not only placed on the difficulties and horrors but also on people’s lifes and personal stories. After hearing about the allday life in theory we will take you to a unique East-Berlin restaurant where we will enjoy some good East German beers and a snack.

This tour can be booked in English everyday with a minimum of 4 guests. Price per Person: only 49,00€, reduced 42,50€, including 19% VAT

“Made in GDR” – Tour description

After we pick you up at your accommodation in our berlin trails bus we will head to the Eastern districts of Berlin. All along our tour we will get to admire typical Eastern architecture – from the panel constructions in the far East to the last European Boulevard that has been built in the heart of Berlin.

We will drive along the remains of the Berlin wall and cross the famous Checkpoint Charlie. Thereby we hear about the events that lead to the construction of the Wall in 1961 and its fall in 1989. Of course we will hear some sad stories of people who tried to escape in different ways during those 28 years. On our tour through the East we will also get to see the former Ministry of State Security and learn about the extensive system of monitoring they applied in order to control people’s life. However – the aim of the tour is not only to show the horrors of the Iron Curtain but to also give an insight on the all day life “made in GDR” - the products, specialties, places, prices, nightlife, culture, people’s difficulties and joys. After about 2hrs of sightseeing we will therefore take you to a unique and exciting East Berlin restaurant (”Speisegaststätte”) where you can try some typical East German snacks and brews. Our local guides will provide you with an authentic and interesting look into life under the socialist regime with all its aspects – positive as well as negative.

Bunker – Berlin sightseeing tour – Beer tasting

The fun will begin when we pick you up at your accommodation in our Berlin Trails Tour bus. Once everyone is settled in we will head out into Berlin where our first stop will take us straight to the real underground scene of Berlin –the city’s underground bunkers.

The Bunker Tour will give us a brief but interesting introduction to the hidden underground and the Nazi history of the city. A truly unique experience.

Back on the city streets, we will hop back into the bus and head for the less known parts of Berlin where we will all enjoy some good German food in a typical Berlin insider location! Once our stomachs are full, it will be time to sit back and relax as your guide drives you on a SIGHTSEEING TOUR through Berlin to see some of the famous historical and modern sites such as: East Side Gallery, Brandenburger Gate, Government District, Kurfürstendamm, Castle Bellevue, Column of Victory, Potsdamer Platz, Hitler’s bunker, Checkpoint Charlie, Holocaust Memorial, the remains of the Berlin wall and much more.

But we will also explore the “terra incognita” of the city and venture to places most foreigners never see. This is an excellent mix of historic sites and modern Berlin, with loads of good stories to tell along the way.

After our sightseeing, it will be time to leave the past and jump back into the present, bringing us to the ultimate Berlin experience – beer! We are going to try out some German beer in a typical and authentic BERLIN BREWERY.

At the end of our day, we are happy to either drop you off back at your accommodation or continue on with you to another a club or pub in the city centre where you can enjoy the rest of the night.
